Lights

As a person in the journey of simplification, you become as a light in the darkness of material culture.  What you do will speak so loudly that no one will hear what you are saying.

Your home will become a refuge to you in the chaos of daily living, and an oasis to your guests as well.  I cannot tell you how many people have commented on how peaceful my home feels to them.  My home has had several comments about the way it feels inviting and different since reaching The Essential in 2015.

Your habit of not overspending will be inspiring to those that are in the quagmire of debt and consumerism.  Many will envy you and be impacted by your example of fiscal responsibility.  People will move towards more frugal, sane habits in their own finances, because of you.

Your ability to say "NO" to unwanted social activity will leave your friends in awe.  People will lust over your nights at home or your time to devote to hobbies and meaningful activities.

What makes you different will leave a distinct impression on those who are witnessing it.  Your refusal to bow at the altar of the material god will stay with those who see it, and likely start a yearning in their souls to buck the consumer culture that is powered by debt and greed.

You will be a light in the darkness to your children, your friends, your coworkers, your relatives, and your spouse.  There will be a difference in you, and you will make a difference in others.
