Coming Home

Coming home.

Is it the best part of your day?  The most stressful?  If it is stressful, could it be that the environment itself has something to do with it?

When you look around your home, do you see peace or chaos?  Do you have something looming that is undone?  Do you see good intentions, half finished projects, and an endless to-do list?

If this is your home, it might be time to simplify.  It is so worth tackling the chaos, repeatedly if necessary.  It is imperative to address the pressing things - leaking faucets, burned out light bulbs, and dirty laundry - and conquer your piles of mess.

If you don't have a month or two to devote to decluttering, that is okay.  Start with 15 minutes a day.  Set a timer.  Pick up after yourself (and your wee-ones if they are not yet able).  The effect it can have on your mental landscape is really magical.

For all those half finished projects:  do some soul searching.  Are you really going to get back to that...whatever "that" is?  If not, distribute the supplies and the clutter from your projects to other places in the universe.  Perhaps a friend who will actually use the sewing fabric; or, (worse case scenario) the dump?

Not having the constant reminder of your failure to follow through will help motivate you to streamline and follow through on future projects.  This likely happens because you remember what process you had to go through to dismantle your mess, and you don't want to repeat, repeat, repeat!

Once you have used the energy to get your space under control, you may find a different feeling when you walk through your door.  You may find tranquility, peace, and it will be easier to find your cheese grater, too.

Isn't it time to come home?
