This or That

It's either this, or that.

If "this" is a life with ever-mounting debt and accumulation of goods, then maybe it is time to consider "that."  That path of possibility, which seems a little scary - to start trying to undo the mess that surrounds you.

It takes courage to admit that you are in a financial pit, and that you will need to do radically different to what you have ever done before if you want to climb out of that depth.  Frugality can seem like a death sentence to fun.  Not going on retail therapy excursions can feel like the end of the world.

But, "that" is not the case.

That path, which seems so frightening and devoid of joy, will, in time, if travelled, allow you to have choices and possibilities that you think are a pipe dream now.   Imagine being able to work part-time instead of full-time.  Or, imagine having enough in the bank that you do not worry about bills, or even bigger:  retirement.

Simplification is the means to personal freedom for many.  Overconsumption robs us of our opportunities and choices - filling our homes with knickknacks and draining our bank accounts.  We don't need much of what we typically have.  We can live better with less.

How do I know "that?"  Nine years ago I started traveling down a new path.  I decluttered, the shopping habit I had got checked.  We retired our debt, including our house.  It was a challenging path to take, and not without some tense moments.  It was well worth the effort.

Will you choose this, or that?
