Rain

There are rainy days as a minimalist.

Not every day will be a spectacular victory in your minimal life.  There will be times that your projects sit for weeks or months as you lack the energy and time to devote to them.  There will be times you long for things you got rid of too quickly.  You will still have "frenemies" and sticky work situations.  You won't have enough energy for everything.

Never doubt your path, though.  When you go down the road toward the Essential far enough, there will be no going back.  You will not imagine happiness for yourself with conspicuous consumption again.  You will know that shopping will not bring you joy, and the knickknack glowing on the shelf at Stuffmart will not fulfill you.

In the rainy days you will find comfort.  You will know that you have the determination to get to that pile in your craft room...one day!  You will realize that the items you gave away are not weighing you down anymore, and some you may have outgrown in your personal development.  Your home can be a sanctuary from work life battles and fake friends as you sit and regroup for the next day on your couch.

Not to mention when life throws a curve, such as a surgery, with the principles of minimalism in place, you can be financially prepared to weather it.  With a stash of savings you can rest comfortably, knowing that if something comes up, you will be ready.

Keep on the path of simplifying.  Let the rain come down around you.  Storms always have an end.

  1. Appreciate the perspective! "Let the rain come down around you," is powerful because it's ok to feel - even when the feelings are not ideal they can be managed. Thanks, Amity!
