Risk Taking

If you are taking zero risks in life you are likely dead.  Risk is a part of existence.  We take a risk when we step out of the shower with wet feet.  We take a risk when we get in our cars to drive to the grocery store.  Risk is inevitable.

There is good risk, and not-so-good risk.  We can use good risk to our advantage.  Not-so-good risk can take us down and turn our lives into tragedy.

Good risk is measured.  The odds are known and discussed.  The benefits are known.  Calculations occur before starting a new venture.   Precautions are taken to lessen the impact of Chaos and the unknown.

Not-so-good risk is impulsive.  Often it is unplanned or poorly planned.  It is spur of the moment, and sometimes dreadful in its consequences.

It is the difference between planning a trip around the world and giving yourself five years to prepare, versus getting angry, quitting your job, and throwing stuff in a backpack and buying a plane ticket to Brazil.  It is okay to have the adventures.  Just make sure that the adventure doesn't ruin you or your opportunities in life.

This advice is golden:  sleep on it.  For your grand ideas, let them simmer awhile in the back of your mind.  Think about career changes for at least 30 days.  Get mentors for your big business ideas and get the information before you start getting the experience of being in business for yourself.

You'll be glad you measured your risk.
